Visas & Entry

Travelling to China for GSLS 2026.

For most nationalities, a short conference stay in China is covered by visa-free entry or a short-stay visa. Participants are responsible for their own visa arrangements — and the organising committee can provide an invitation letter to support your application. Visa policies change, so always confirm with the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate before booking.

🇲🇾 Malaysian Passport Holders

  • Visa-free entry for up to 30 days under the China–Malaysia Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement.
  • Covers tourism, business and exchange visits — including a short conference trip like GSLS 2026.
  • Carry an ordinary passport valid for 6+ months and a confirmed return ticket.

🌍 Other Nationalities

  • Many countries enjoy visa-free entry for up to 30 days (tourism, business and exchange) — check the current list before travelling.
  • Otherwise apply for a short-stay visa, such as an L tourist visa or an M business visa for conferences.
  • Apply at the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate well in advance of your travel dates.

📄 Invitation Letter

  • Visa applications often ask for an invitation letter from the host organisation.
  • The organising committee can provide one for visa purposes — email gslsmohe@umpsa.edu.my.
  • Keep copies of your passport, invitation letter and booking confirmations while in China.
Delegate Tips

Make the most of your stay.

A few practical notes to help you explore the city comfortably during the summit.

🚇 Getting Around

  • Metro Lines 1–3 and 9 link the main sights with the city centre.
  • Taxis and ride-hailing apps are affordable — keep a destination written in Chinese.
  • The Tianjin Eye and riverfront are easy to reach on foot from downtown hotels.

🧣 December Weather

  • Cold, dry and windy: temperatures typically run from about −4°C at night to 4°C in the day.
  • Rain is rare — around 3 mm for the whole month, usually as light snow — so expect very dry air; pack lip balm and stay hydrated.
  • Pack warm layers, a heavy coat, scarf, gloves, hat and comfortable shoes; a windproof jacket helps on gusty days.
  • Indoor venues, hotels and the metro are heated throughout, and December sits outside Tianjin’s spring dust season (roughly March to May).

🗓️ In the Programme

  • Day 1 opens with arrival in Tianjin, a city tour and hotel check-in — followed by Breaking Barriers, Building Bonds in the evening.
  • Day 5 closes in Beijing — the Embassy, Xiaomi EV Super Factory and Tsinghua Science Park — before the flight home.
  • Free evenings are ideal for the Eye, the river cruise and street food.
